Valerie L. Brown obtained an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from McMaster University. Thereafter she attended the Faculty of Law at the University of Western Ontario.

After her call to the bar, Ms. Brown focussed her practice on family law matters in York Region. In 2005 Ms. Brown co-founded Epstein Brown LLP. In 2007 Brown Law Firm was opened, continuing to serve clients in all family related matters.

Ms. Brown is currently on the panel of the Office of the Children's Lawyer. She is also trained in the practice of Collaborative Law.

Ms. Brown is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, York Region Law Association, Simcoe County Law Association, York Collaborative Practice, Collaborative Practice Simcoe County, and Ontario Bar Association. She has been a member of the Board of Directors for the York Region Law Association since 2006, and has served as its secretary since 2007. Ms. Brown is also on the Family Law Committee and is the Chair of the Child Protection Best Practices Committee in York Region.
