Susan Powell has an honours degree in psychology from Glendon College and is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School. She has practiced Family Law in York Region for over 20 years specializing in the representation of children. She is a qualified family law mediator and is trained in Child Protection Mediation. She is a panel member of Legal Aid Ontario and a practicing Collaborative Family Lawyer.

Susan has been a roster member of the York Region Mediation Service for thirteen years. She was instrumental in establishing a pilot project for child protection mediation, which was subsequently adopted by the Ministry of the Attorney General.

Susan Powell is committed to helping couples reach a settlement unique to their family in a compassionate, safe and efficient manner. She understands the negative impact that litigation can have on separating families especially the children. Her practice is devoted exclusively to conflict resolution without court involvement.

Susan is a strong proponent of using Collaborative Team Practice to empower people to resolve their own disputes in a respectful manner. Through the collaborative process, the parties are able to obtain an agreement in a more creative and lasting manner. This can often be done in a shorter amount of time and usually with less legal costs.

Susan has recently relocated to the Collingwood area where she has established a practice in Collaborative Family Law and Mediation. She is a member of the Collaborative Practice Simcoe County and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals. She is an active member of the community and has a long history of volunteerism.
